Inzaghi Departs Inter Milan Following Mutual Agreement With Club

Inzaghi has parted ways with Inter Milan after both sides reached a mutual agreement to end their working relationship.

Inter Milan have confirmed the departure of manager Simone Inzaghi just three days after their heavy Champions League final loss to Paris Saint-Germain. The decision, reached by mutual agreement, brings an end to Inzaghi’s four-year tenure at the Serie A club.

Inzaghi, 49, who took charge in 2021, has been widely linked with a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, who will also compete in the upcoming Fifa Club World Cup.

“The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a four-year journey, during which I gave everything,” said Inzaghi in a farewell message. “I want to dedicate one last word to the millions of Nerazzurri fans who cheered me on, cried and suffered in difficult moments and laughed and celebrated in the six triumphs we experienced together. I will never forget you.”

The club confirmed the decision followed a meeting between Inzaghi and club officials on Tuesday. “The club and Simone Inzaghi are parting ways,” read a statement from Inter Milan. “This is the decision taken by mutual agreement.”

Inter president Giuseppe Marotta praised Inzaghi’s contribution, stating: “I would like to thank Simone Inzaghi for the work done, for the passion shown and also for the sincerity in the discussion that led to the common decision to separate our paths. Only when we have fought together to achieve success day by day, can we have a frank dialogue like the one that happened.”

During his time at San Siro, Inzaghi guided Inter to one Serie A title, two Coppa Italia titles, and three Supercoppa Italiana trophies. He also led the team to two Champions League finals—losing narrowly to Manchester City in 2022-23 and suffering a crushing 5-0 defeat to PSG last weekend.

Inter missed out on this season’s Serie A title by just one point to Napoli and are due to participate in the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in the US from 14 June to 13 July.
